I went to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the second time last month.  The first time I went to San Juan, I spent 7 days and gained 5 pounds.  The food in San Juan is delicious.  Seafood and Mofongo seems to be there specialty........

Christmas Truffles

During this season, people love to indulge their sweet tooth in all sorts of sinfully sweet  delicacies.  From Egg nog to fruit cake, to chocolate.  Chocolate truffles just feel like Christmas. Moonstruck is a website that offers you the opportunity to order chocolate truffles with a holiday flair.  There are so many different types of truffles offered at Moonstruck that you'll need a good twenty minutes to decide which ones to order.  Oh, by the way, they are delicious and very, very rich.

La Paella NYC

La Paella is one of my FAVORITE restaurants.  The food here is absolutely perfect.  Such delicately seasoned entrees, cooked to perfection. And did I mention the sangria?  The best in town, if you ask me.  But first the decor......

La Paella is located at 214 E 9th St. Inside, you'll find the warm, inviting and intimate atmosphere you'd expect to experience in a restaurant somewhere in Europe.  It's cozy, clean and rustic with an elegant flair.  Everytime I eat here, I'm transported from the streets of New York to the cobbled stoned streets of the likes of Naples or Spain.  The food is authentic Spanish (from Spain). And staff is extremely courteous.

The sangira at La Paella is delicious and strong.  Their happy hour offers 2 for 1 sangrias until 8 pm during the week, and until 6 pm on weekends.

Seafood Soup

Ham and Cheese Croquettes

The seafood soup (Sopa de Mariscos) is a mouth watering medley of seafood (shrimp, clams, muscles, calamari) in a delicious tomato based broth that's not too salty.  I stress the not too salty part because some places just can't find the right median between bland and salty.  La Paella gets it right.  It's tasty without being salty...very important!!

Chicken and rice in saffron sauce
The ham and cheese croquettes are delicious...very flavorful without (once again) being salty. This is a tapas restaurant, so they offer "small plates." Although you can get a plate of delicious paella of various sorts. One of their plates that is a favorite of mine is the chicken with rice in saffrom sauce.  One word...SCRUMPTIOUS.  They also offer a few salads for those who are watching the calories.  The salad with chicken and house vinegrette is delicious, filling and very pleasing to the eye.

Korean BBQ-Don's Bogam

So I did the korean BBQ thing for the first time the other day.  My friends and I went to Don's Bogam in midtown Manhattan.  What can I say, it was an experience! The place is quite elegant to behold, I must say.  The place is relatively large (for a manhattan restaurant).  And the tables are uniquely designed.  The tables are not above ground, but are rather, kinda built into the ground.  This is to accomodate the grill that is a part of, and in the center of the table.

Chicken on the Bar B
The idea here is that your waitor cooks your food for you right in front of you.  If this idea sounds exciting to you, then you'll love this place.  First and foremost, the meat and seafood here is the freshest I've ever tasted.  Also, due to the fact that most everything is grilled, the food is pretty healthy.

Beef

Raw Shrimp
They provide "sides" but these sides are standard.  In other words, you don't get to choose them.  And they're very, very small. My friend and I almost fought over some potato salad.  It was like a scoop or dollop of potato salad. I mean it.  I'm not being dramatic here.

Shrimp cooked (well)
My other issue with the sides are that they were cold.  And some of them were foods that I don't eat cold.  Some people at my table were still hungry after we were done.  But, in my opinion, it was a good experience for a food connoisseur like me to have.  They offer a large array of wine and sake as well.

Bogota Latin Bistro

BOGOTA LATIN BISTRO, BROOKLYN, NY

I went to Bogota Latin Bistro with a friend. Bogota is located at 141 5th avenue in Brooklyn, NY.  What a wonderful experience! Why did I wait so long to eat here?  The customer service was wonderful, the food was GREAT, and the drinks were delicious! I Will defintely go again.  Bogota serves authentic, flavorful Colombian cuisine.  The Steak Chimichurri was the BEST I've ever tasted. And the Sangrita was a party in my mouth. Such a wonderful experience!

Recipe of the day: Avocado Mango Salad

I was looking for stuff in my refridgerator to use in a salad.  After realizing I was out of lettuce.  This is what I came upwith.  It was pretty good!

Ingredients:
One small avocado or half of one large avocado diced.
One fourth to half of a medium sized tomato diced.
Half of a medium green (not ripe) mango or a table mango (not too sweet) diced.
One peeled cucumber, diced
Half a red pepper coarsely chopped
The juice of one lime
One teaspoon of oil
Salt to taste

Preparation:
Combine all chopped ingredients.  Mix with large spoon.  Sprinkle oil and salt evenly.  Mix with large spoon again.  Refridgerate for 20-30 minutes before eating.
